This designation and the resulting location of
businesses has contributed greatly to the vast economic growth that
Memphis and Shelby County has experienced over the past several years.
An additional result of our position as the nation's premier distribution hub is the fact that air, rail, truck and barge transportation of hazardous materials is commonplace throughout the area. Memphis and Shelby County is also the home of major chemical and industrial manufacturing facilities.
All of these production and transportation companies are active members of the Memphis and Shelby County LEPC. They work with our city and county emergency response providers sharing information on chemical hazards, participating in emergency response drills, and helping to insure the safe production, handling, and transportation of these materials in our community. |
